Cerebral Palsy

Cerebral palsy is an incurable disorder that impairs the capability to control coordination, posture, motor skills, depth perception, and movement. Cerebral palsy can be triggered by a failure to diagnose and treat fetal distress during the labor and delivery process, leading to a loss of breathable air to the infant and resulting in major brain damage. The three main types of cerebral palsy are:

  • Spastic cerebral palsy
  • Athetoid cerebral palsy
  • Ataxic cerebral palsy

Sometimes symptoms of cerebral palsy are mild. However, in severe cases the disorder can be accompanied by mental impairment and seizures demanding intensive assisted care. Some individuals lose their fine motor skills. The amount of money needed for caring for an individual with cerebral palsy can be astronomical, amounting to millions of dollars above insurance coverage.
